The PSL points table 2018 would be right here. PSL season 3 kicks start on 22nd of February and PSL points table standings would be shown here.
A throwback to PSL season 2:
Peshawar Zalmi beat Quetta Gladiators to clinch the title of Pakistan Super League in the final. Peshawar Zalmi scored 148 in the final and Quetta could only manage 90 all out and lost the battle. Kamran Akmal was awarded man of the tournament and Darren Sammy was the most prominent player in the final, bagging man of the match title.
In the playoffs, there was an upset by Quetta Gladiators to Peshawar Zalmi when Quetta got hold of the match by taking three consecutive wickets on the last three deliveries. Karachi could not score much in the eliminator but they dismissed Islamabad for a sub-100 score to get into the second qualifier. In the second qualifier, Peshawar Zalmi put a score of 180-plus, bowled quite brilliantly to undone Karachi kings.
PSL Format & Points System
The PSL also works on a similar format to other leagues around the world. Till last year, all of the five teams played each other home and away and two points were awarded for a win.
This year, there would be a lot of shuffle to the PSL points table since Multan Sultans have joined the PSL as the sixth team. Due to this each team will play one additional match in the league stage of the tournament. The total tally for matches for a team is 5 matches each.
If a match is abandoned, both teams will get one point each. The top four teams of the group stage will qualify for the next round. The first qualifier will be played between the first two teams of the group stage on Sunday, March 18th at Dubai. The third and fourth team will battle it out for a playoff spot against the loser of the first match. The winner of the eliminator and the loser of the qualifier will face off each other to get into the finals, being held in Karachi on 25th of March, 2018.
PSL will follow the complete rules and regulations put forward by the international cricket council, followed by other leagues too.
PSL 2018 points table will follow the following scheme for awarding points in the group stage of the league.
- Two points would be assigned to every win.
- One point would be assigned to both teams if the match ends with no result.
- Zero points would be assigned in case of losing a match.
- If the scores are level by the end of the match, the winner would be decided by a super over. This would be followed in group stages too.
The standings of teams in the points table for PSL will be based on the following rules;
- If both teams have equal points, a higher number of wins would be considered.
- If still equal then, the net run rate would be considered.
- If still the same, then lower bowling strike rate would be considered.
- If still, it’s the same then, head to head clashes would compute the relative rankings of the teams.
As the league stage of the tournament is finished, four of the six teams will make their way into the playoffs.
The top two teams will battle it out for a spot in the final. The 3rd and 4th team will play an eliminator and the loser would go home, and the winner will then play the loser of the first qualifier in an eliminator itself. The winner of this match will make its way to the final.
What happened in the first edition of the PSL, Pakistan’s Premiere Tournament?
Islamabad United ended up being winners of the PSL first edition even though they were 3rd on the PSL points table that year. They beat Karachi kings in the eliminator, before tearing apart Peshawar Zalmi in the qualifier.
In the final, Brad Haddin and Dwayne Smith both shinned, scoring half-centuries respectively. Islamabad chased the target of 175 runs easily to be crowned as Pakistan Super League champions.
Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators completed the 2016 PSL Points table with six wins each. They finished on 12 points with the Zalmi taking the best spot because of a superior net run-rate. After a moderate begin, Islamabad United indented up four wins to complete on eight points, while Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars equaled each other on four points.
Tragically for the Qalandars, their net run-rate was somewhat poor and that enabled the Kings to come4th to take the last semi-last spot. The first semi-final was played between Zalmi and Kings, and the second one was played between Gladiators and United.
A THROWBACK TO PSL
The Pakistan Super League Live (PSL) turned into Pakistan’s major T20 competition even though it was announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board way back in 2009. Exorbitant deferrals have made the competition be rescheduled and it was finally launched in 2016.
The PSL which is held in UAE is the most prestigious and popular league in the shorter format of the game after the Indian Premier League
24 matches were played in total over a time period of almost 21 days, from February 4th to February 24th in Dubai and Sharjah.
Every franchise would opt for a total of 16 players which will consist of 5 foreign, 11 Pakistani nationals, and at least two emerging players. Also, teams would pick supplementary players to replace the ones injured or unavailable for any reason.
